You will be expected to

  • Attend a 2.5-hour session every week, for fourteen weeks, which will be a mixture of theory and practice
  • Use a combination of Zoom (for breakout rooms) and Conceptboard (for content capture and monitoring). If you are unsure that your current devices or software will be able to engage using this combination, our technical support consultant is available to have a conversation with you once you have registered.
  • Work together with 2 other (minimum) participants to undertake practical applications, supported with coaching by a facilitator
  • Assist your team members to ‘catch up’ if there is an unavoidable absence.

You will receive

  • 7 sessions of 2.5 hours of theory (odd weeks)
  • 7 sessions of peer group practice (even weeks) including coaching by facilitators during each practice session
  • 2 hours of coaching/mentoring for individual’s future planning
  • Resource materials.
  • 2 hours of mentoring for individual activities
  • Resource materials.

Do you need your stakeholders to understand and be able to navigate new conditions or explore potential alternatives to current procedures and practices?

Skilled use of simulations and games for learning provides you with practical tools and opportunities for achieving successful outcomes by generating ‘as if real’ learning conditions for analysis.

This online learning program is designed for consultants, leaders, educators and researchers considering use of simulations and games-based learning methods for learning how to operate and thrive in diverse conditions of complexity.

The program will be presented online in weekly sessions over 14 weeks and alternate between theory and practice. Each theory session is led by the Facilitators and includes engagement via exercises, discussion and play. Each practice session provides you with opportunities to work in small teams as you learn to apply the theory to your own/anticipated contexts.

Using the Cynefin® complexity framework as the foundation, the program is designed to explore and apply the theory and practice of simulations and games for learning in participant’s own contexts.

Therefore, you will need to have a basic understanding of this framework which can be completed as part of pre-course work. You will develop an understanding of the characteristics of different forms of simulation, relevant facilitation strategies for use with each form, with specific attention paid to complex environments.

You can expect to
  • Be able to apply relevant principles for choosing and using simulations for learning and decision support.
  • Know how to make the case for the use of simulation in your own contexts
  • Be aware of how to design and apply simulation principles in your own contexts
  • Operate as an effective facilitator in a range of settings and with a variety of simulation formats
